Default Computer upgrade

Ok, I finally ran into a session that my computer had a little trouble digesting.
It had lots of tracks, lots of plugs, lots of automation and the first 12 tracks were tracked at 128 - 85% so for additional external MIDI to lockup right it had to stay at 128 - 85%.
Anyway I trying to find out what the current saturation point seems to be with the current P4's, in other words the point where moving up in processor doesn't really yield more performance?
I know that on the DUC that most go with AMD but I am interested in P4's.
Thanks for any replies.
