Default XP2500+ and OC or XP3000+

Hi everyone, I'm putting a new DAW together after the weekend and I'm wondering if I should take:

1. AMD XP2500+ and overclock if/when neccessary

or

2. AMD XP3000+

Both CPU's have the same FSB, L1 and L2 cache's but the price difference is 200 USD where I'm located (150 USD for XP2500+ and 350 USD for XP3000+ believe it or not).

I'm also wondering if Gigabyte's GA-7VT600L motherboard is good enough as ASUS mobo's are hard to find here in Iceland.

http://tolvuvirkni.net/pw?inc=view&f...av=MOB_7VT600F

The link is to an Icelandic website but there's a description of the motherboard in english.

Any suggestions/comments appreciated.

To be honest, I have tons of processing power with the 2500. for the extra cash, I'm not sure it's worth it. 200USD is a good chunck of $$$!! In short, go with the 2500

How's Iceland this time of year? I've been there before. summer of '99. Nice place and cool people. Cheers ,Jayman#9.

Oh, as far as the motherboard, it looks like it'll do the job. It has a Via kt600 chipset. It's the same chipset as my ASUS A7V600. Mine works fine, so I'm sure you'll have no problems. As far as I know, SIS chipsets are the ones to stay away from. VIA is pretty much a sure thing. But on the other hand, I hope I'm not wrong

Thank Jayman, I'll go with your suggestion (unless someone else makes a case that I should not). I saw on the best system for under $1000 that this CPU (although with a different mobo than the one I'll get) scored 32+24 on theDAVEC test so I reckon I should be ok. Also, this will be a dedicated DAW so that should helpt too.

Iceland, as the name suggests, is cold and snowy at the moment, but I'll have my new system to warm me up over the holidays.

Thanks again and best wishes.

Digi 001, 002, or Mbox? Davec score may vary significantly with hardware and PT LE version.

More details about my future setup:

DIGI 001
PT LE 6.2

CPU: AMD XP2500+ or AMD XP3000+
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-7VT600F
RAM: 1 GB (2 x (noname) DDR 512 Mb 333 MHz PC2700)
HD System: WD Caviar 7200 RPM, 8MB buffer, 40 GB
HD Recording: WD Caviar 7200 RPM, 8MB buffer, 80 GB
HD Backup: Samsung 7200 RPM, 2MB buffer, 80 GB
Screencard: Radeon 9200 SE 64 MB
OS: Windows XP Home
Then there's a generic case with a quiet PSU and enough space for additional HD's, a generic CD RW and floppy etc...

Thanks for all your help.

I've just been told that this CPU on this MOBO can not be overclocked, maybe I won't need to ??

Just picked up to a Digi 002R, still in box until my next DAW is built. Considered Asus P4P800 deluxe with P4 2.6 or 2.8 GHz 800MHz FSB until P4 config. disappeared from Best System for PTLE for under $1000.00. Now considering Asus A7V600 with XP 2500 or 2800+ Barton. What does the following mean in regards to performance?
