Can I use the same pt10 activation on both my studio iMac and PC laptop

I have an extra unused ilok2. Can I install my current activation of pro tools 10 running on my iMac onto my PC laptop so I can take work home with me to edit and mix from the couch. Will both work simultaneously?

Pro Tools can be installed on as many computers as you like.

All you need is the licence on one iLok, then use that iLok in whichever computer (Mac or PC) you want to use Pro Tools on.

They will only work simultaneously with two licences, One licence per iLok. So no, you can't use one activation to gain two licences.

What about my plugins.? I have autotune, izotope, waves plugins? Will they transfer as well?

Different plugins use different authorization methods. But those that have authorization on an iLok can be used on whichever system iLok is plugged into.

Those 3 should be fine !!! Some plugs, however, are coded for only one platform. To be safe, check each 3rd party vendor web sites.

One license means one simultaneous use. Two licenses on two iLok keys means two simultaneous uses. Etcetera.

If you have one set of licenses, you will have to carry that iLok with you everywehere you go.

Btw, have you understood why there are insurance companies available?

There are 2 options here that any "pro" should look at.

1 is ZDT, which is an iLok option that allows you(in the event of a lost/stolen/broken iLok) to get temporary licenses put onto a new/spare iLok so you are not "up the creek" while you go thru all the misery of restoring your assets. Its $35 per year(IIRC) and a "no brainer" to me.

2 is to have coverage as part of a BOP(business owner policy) where you could submit a claim and have your software replaced(more expensive, but could be a life saver for a studio owner). Consider how important that little dongle is to your art/passion/business and act accordingly

ZDT saves your ass permanently for stolen/broken iLok. All you need is a spare key waiting for disaster to happen, then get permanent licenses and continue working. After that you need to send the broken key back to iLok, or if the key was stolen, you need to send them police report which proves that it was stolen. And once iLok has received and inspected either one of the two, they will re-instate your permanent licenses.

Doesn't work for lost key, unless you cheat and go to police saying that a guy stole that little piece of plastic that the criminal thought was worth something.

This is the only (legal and ethical) way of covering yourself for stupidity. Sure, things can get lost, especially little plastic things like the iLok key.
