Default Problems with Pro Tools LE 8 freezing when starting up!!!

I just installed Pro Tools LE 8.0.3 on my iMac (i7 Quad Core, 4 GB RAM, OS X 10.6.2).

**I've also installed the 8.0.3 cs1 update, and deleted the specified PT prefs, databases, and volumes. In addition to these, I've optimized my system according to my Setup Guide and the General Trouble Shooting thread.**

When I start a blank session, I choose to save to my external drive (Glyph GT 050Q - connected via FW800). When PT opens its says 'saving' down in the bottom left corner of the Edit Window, and my cursor turns into the spinning beach ball of death at which point I have to Force Quit PT.

What is going on?? Can ANYONE help me out??

Question Re: Problems with Pro Tools LE 8 freezing when starting up!!!

Do you have auto-save enabled? If so, what happens if you disable it?

I'm not sure if auto-save is enabled. When I boot up PT , cancel out of the initial template window, and move my cursor up to the menu bar and click anywhere, the cursor turns into the colored spinning icon.

**I then Force Quit PT and the cursor still spins when I move it over the right side of the menu bar (with the date, time, volume, etc)**

***On a side note, I asked two of my teachers at school about the issue and they told me that it might be one of the following : my version of iTunes, my version of Quicktime, or I may need to download a firmware update for my Mbox 2.

Would any of those be of legitimate concern??

There seems to be plenty of people having issues with the new iMacs and protools. Follow these two threads to keep up on the latest and possibly a working solution:

Thanks for the links Obsidian, definite eye openers.

Unfortunately its too late and I'm basically screwed because I have exactly the equipment that's been problematic.

It sounds like some people are having luck with the Mbox 2 Mini, but the whole USB thing is still up in the air, and others are using MacBooks and what have you.

So my question now is, do I downgrade to the Mbox 2 Mini, or somehow try to return my iMac and get a different computer (and if so, which computer)?

***I can't believe I just spent over $3000 on 'top of the line' equipment from professional computer/audio production companies and none of it works...

Great...

Wasn't there a solution by using a specific USB port? I don't get the feeling that everybody with a new iMac is having problems. There are many things that should be tried before giving up on the computer. Hopefully Digidesign and Apple can come up with a working solution in a future release.
