Default How to access patchlist for external MIDI Devices

Trying to figure out how to assign a patchlist to a MIDI Device. I clicked on the when I open the patch dialog and choose "Change" and navigate to the provided corresponding .midinam file, I get the error below. In this case the MIDI track is targeting an old M1R... so it's the correct instrument.

I'll keep digging. Thanks!
