Re: Metal Drums - elastic audio or beat detective?
Quote:
I know they have a beat detective and Elastic audio dvd's on there. I think the "Jump Start" dvd or the "Pro Tools Explained" would probably would be a good choice.

Re: Metal Drums - elastic audio or beat detective?
cool.
Too bad Netflix doesn't have this kind of stuff. That'd be awesome. I do my recording with a Zoom R16. 8 tracks of drums onto a SD card in wav format. For the next song I'll put a click on track 9 instead of on an ipod for the drummer to play to. Then when he's finished I can import 9 tracks into pro tools. 1 click and 8 tracks of audio. |

Re: Metal Drums - elastic audio or beat detective?
If you have a Zoom R16, why not just use it to record directly into Pro Tools? I believe there are CoreAudio drivers available for it.

Re: Metal Drums - elastic audio or beat detective?
its far easier to leave the PC out of the mix at the recording stage.
Way less to haul around. With this all I have to do is plug in the mics and go. |

Re: Metal Drums - elastic audio or beat detective?
I have done a lot of experiments with grouped tracks and elastic audio.
Cut the drums into sections. I use 8 bars. Then edit only in xForm. You will get major phase issues converting from any other algorithm. You should pay attention to the phase even with this method. If you want to pocket the drums to a click, set up a click track at the correct tempo and then record it to another audio track. Make sure that your drums are sample timebased and not tick timebased. Find your bar 1 beat 1 and identify the beat. The click should line up with your original click and the drums will probably float around the beat. It's a slippery slope. The rest of the band will need the same attention if they tracked to the drummer. If that is the case, I usually group the tracks for the whole performance and edit them together. I can fix the individual tracks later. |

Re: Metal Drums - elastic audio or beat detective?
yes, look at Kenny's Elastic Audio in PT8 dvd, its still valid for PT9.
http://www.groove3.com/str/elastic-audio-in-action.html as far as learning the other aspects of PT9 (or other programs for that matter) then Lynda.com is the best IMHO http://store.lynda.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=1081 http://www.lynda.com/home/DisplayCourse.aspx?lpk2=74534 http://www.lynda.com/home/TutorialLa...spx?lpk4=76146
