help with headphones?
Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'm very new to recording and on a very limited budget! I will be buying an Mbox, Fostex PM0.5 monitors and a Samson C01 condenser mic in about a month. I also want a pair of semi decent headphones to go with it and I have about 150 australian dollars to spend. I've been looking at Sennheiser HD 212 pro's and was wondering what you all think of these. Are there any other headphones that are better than these for the price?

Re: help with headphones?
not quite sure what that comes out to in US dollars, but I am pretty happy with my Sony's myself. I forget the model number, but I paid $100 US per pair and they sound great The Sennheiser HD 212 should do for what you are looking to go with though. You can always upgrade down the road also if you like.

Re: help with headphones?
I second the recommendation for the Audio-Technica ATH-M40, but make sure you get the M40 fs. There is another M40 model that does not have the flat response. For recording and mixing, you really want the flat response. But they are great headphones, and not expensive.

Re: help with headphones?
I have got a pair of these and 2 pairs of these. And a pair of these . The DT770s sound and feel the best for sure. The 280s are probably the best bang for the buck.

Re: help with headphones?
Well welcome to the DUC!
I’ve always felt choosing headphones was like choosing a candy bar. There are different qualities from ultra-generic-crap to ultra-gourmet-expensive but you can’t ever really say “this one is better than that” because too much is dependent on the needs/likes/budget of the individual. My personal choice is 3 Musketeers... err, I mean Sony MDR-7506's. Are they perfect? No. But at about $100 USD they offer good quality sound and a very comfortable fit. I don’t mind that they color the sound because I don’t use them to mix to...I mean, you just shouldn’t mix in headphones, that’s crazy! However, when I’m editing from home, I need a headphone that won’t make my ears sore after they’ve been on all day (I live in an apartment and the guy upstairs works nights–he doesn’t like big boomy sound effects keeping him up all day). The Sony’s are not too tight and not too light plus they sound good at soft levels and at loud levels. I have nothing against other headphones. I’ve used and liked others. These are just the ones I like most. Good luck...
