Default Vertical Jumping With Edit Selection In Playlist View

This is my first post, and I've searched every keyword I can think of. So, I apologise if this has been covered elsewhere.

I have a drum group: OHL/R,SN,HH...RoomFar etc.

I am in playlist view and currently track selecting.

I only want to see OHL and the playlist tracks below.

Does anybody know how I can prevent the edit window screen from jumping to the extremes of this group in the direction that I select towards? i.e. if I more the selection up, the edit window jumps vertically to 'OHL' (at the top of my group), and by the same token when I move the edit selection down the edit window jumps to 'RoomFar'.

Many thanks to you all in advance!

p.s. I hope my signature appears :)

Hi there,

thanks for that. I had already trawled through 'Preferences', and clicked most boxes that I thought were relevant i.e. I had already had a closer look at the 'Zoom Toggle' menu under 'Editing', and poked around in 'Display'.

Do you have any specific path that you can point me to?

Much appreciated,

R

Shift+Command+G to disable groups, or you can disable just the drum group in the groups list.

Thanks again,

however, I don't want to disable groups: I'm track selecting/ editing.

Any ideas?

Haven't done that much editing and comping in playlist view, so I just made a selection across all playlists for one track, and hit "E" to "fit to window" (vertically). I constantly toggle edit groups on/off due to the way I have the preferences set up.

Oops, no... I hit Ctrl+Command+Up arrow, not "E" (Zoom toggle function).

Tired...

Yes, I can toggle my zoom by pressing 'E'. The problem specifically is that when I move a selection down to audition a new take/ section that the screen jumps to the extremity of the group. I just want to look at the top track and not constantly jump around.

I can send through screen shots/ video if this will help?

Yes, because you have the edit group active, and when you move the selection up/down, all tracks in that group will be selected. I have the preference "Zoom toggle follows edit selection" checked, and the edit groups off when I do such things.

Really? You compile without groups on? How should that work on a multi-track recording? Or do you mean you toggle groups on and off? This still wouldn't help my issue as I understand it.

I suspect I may not have been clear enough or, we are talking about different things.

To be clear:

I MUST have my groups active naturally to make selections for compiling or editing a group of mics that recorded one instrument (in this instance drums).

I WANT to be able to look at ONE track only (for example the top track, which is in this instance 'OHL') when making these selections, regardless of whether or not I move my edit selection up or down (by pressing: p';l).

Zoom Toggle Follows Edit Selection only zoom focuses my selection which is irrelevant for me. I just want visual stability and my screen not to jump around the whole time.

I wonder if I can post a .mov on here, or a series of screen shots?

Thanks for the input :)
