Default Re: A7V333 XP2200 Cpu Speed Problems

HI Chris,
I have only one application (pro tools) on this machine.
I have optimized XP for audio and optimized everything in the bios for performance except two of the biggies, CPU speed and memory tuning, the system is running faster but I still don't have enough CPU power, I need more info reguarding these two things before I start tweaking them in the BIOS.

Thanks so much for your help.
Brian

Well, that ram wants the 166 fsb, and the cpu should take it. I can't really make any more suggestions besides the ACPI, and that's really a c***shoot.

See if your bios will let you set a multiplier of 13 instead of 13.5 at fsb of 166/33. Ram is probably CAS 2.5 if you have a setting for that.

Good Luck

Hi Chris,
When I go Into the manual mode to change the CPU Frequency multiple it allows me to change it to 15x but then when I go back to change the CPU speed it automatically goes back to it's own defaults (which are stated above). So no luck there.
Thanks for trying.

It also has two system performance settings in the Bios: Optimal and Turbo. When I try Turbo it gets hung up and won't even open windows.

Default A7V333 XP2200 Cpu Speed Problems

Greetings,
In the bios of this machine there are 3 CPU settings:
(1) 1350MHZ with a CPU freqency multiple set at 13.5x and the CPU/PCI freqency of 100/33

(2) 1800 MHz, 13.5x, 133/33

(3) 2250 MHz, 13.5x, 166/33

In order for the machine to run I have to set the CPU speed to the lowest setting. If I set it at 1800MHz the machine is unstable and crashes and freezes constantly. If I set the CPU speed to 2250MHz the machine always crashes instantly and won't even open windows.

The lowest setting is not enough CPU power. I would like to increase the CPU speed as much as I can while still keeping the machine stable.

I must be missing something as I also have another machine with the same motherboard and a XP2400 CPU and it also has to be set on the lowest setting as well or the same thing happens.

Can anyone offer any insights? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Brian Scott

I'm not familiar with this mobo, but setting three SHOULD work based upon specs. I find it interesting that it gives you just three settings to choose from. Have you tried looking for a firmware update?

Also -When it crashes and I reboot it goes into safe mode and say's "during the last boot up your system hung for an improper CPU speed"

no prob Brian, someone will probably wind up giving you better help than I can because I'm one of those strictly intel guys, but I'll do my best:

Have you got any speed/overclocking/health programs installed. If so try removing them and see what happens.

Did you do a standard PC install? (it disables APCI, or is it ACPI?, and reverts you back to APM. Seems to cure a lot of people's ailments inside of PT, but It looks like windows may be giving you the hard time over CPU speed. Windows uses ACPI to communicate this kind of info from the board. So disabling it might prove helpful. there are a couple of threads on here detailing how to change this after you've already installed windows.

Good luck man, I'm curious to find out what's up with this. It looks like you know your stuff with computer hardware: you've got all your specs perfectly matched in that hardware list.
