Default Type 2 Crashes with AV Option|XL

Anyone else out there having daily type 2 crashes with their AV Option|XL + ProTools 5.01 (Mac) system?

We're using a PowerMac G4/400 AGP with the new Digidesign 13-slot chassis.

Help! Have done all the prefs trashing. OS9.04 installed. Disk Cache=512. ProTools memory set to 50MB, DAE to 60MB.

HELP!

MJ,

Nothing specific was being done before the type 2 quit. It keeps happening at any time.

A typical day goes something like:

Tuesday 11:50 The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other applications and restart the computer.

Tuesday 16:45 The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other applications and restart the computer.

Tuesday 17:40 The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other applications and restart the computer.

Tuesday 19:40 The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other applications and restart the computer.

Wednesday16.30 The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other applications and restart the computer.

Wednesday16.35 The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save your work in other applications and restart the computer.

This is our setup:

PowerMac G4/AGP OS9.04 (256MB)
-------------------------------------------------
AGP SLot: Appian J2000 64MB AGP
Slot 1: Expansion Chassis Card
Slot 2: empty
Slot 3: SCSI64

Digidesign 13 Expansion Chassis
-----------------------------------------------
Slot 1: MIX Core
Slot 2: MIX Farm
Slot 7: AV Option|XL

Help!

I understand, The application "Protools" has unexpectedly quit because an error of type 2 occurred. You should save
your work in other applications and restart the computer.
If you are doing an audio only session
do you still crash type 2?
Did you follow the card order from the
AV, AV/XL option guide, or from the read me
sheet included in the AVoption XL box? I believe it has a different card order than the manual. Also, by any chance do you have a MOTU
MIDI TimepieceAV USB MIDI interface connected?

Brent,

I've already listed out my card order above. And I'm sure you can verify the order as per the latest Digidesign 13-slot chassis readme included in the package.

There is no USB MIDI device of any kind involved. USD is connected to the DIgiSerial port. Machine Control is connected via Keyspan USA28X USB/Serial adapter connected to the second USB port of the PowerMac.

Brent, all our work involves the video integration with audio. We don't do audio only projects.

I've got the same setup as you and have had the same error messages. We increased PT memory to 90mb and at the same time I initialised all the media drives and updated the disk drivers, the problem appears to have gone away. Do you get your projects via omf and if you do is the omf from an NT based machine, if it is check that Norton Utilities is not running on it we've found strange type2 and type3 messages because of Norton.

Hope this is of some help

Tony

Hello Tony,

Thank you very much for your response. Makes us feel better in a strange kind of way that someone else did face similar problems.

Our two external DigiDrives 18GB units have been formatted by the included ATTO Express ProTools software. The internal Macintosh harddisk has not been touched.

So in our case, maybe increasing the memory size for ProTools might help.

It would also help if Digidesign officially let us know of the problems currently facing AV Option|XL users.
