Default Re: A7V333 XP2200 Cpu Speed Problems

On the motherboard box it says it supports DDR333 (PC2700).

ASUS tec support told me that the board should support any size ram if it’s from the “right “ manufacturer Micron is on the list. The tech support guy had me changing the CPU speed to manual and then tweaking the CPU frequency Multiple, CPU/PCI freq and CPU/ Memory freq ratio. So far no combination has worked. I put in a Crucial PC2700 512MB chip in and I still have the same problem.

The XP 2200+ Processor has a FSB266. The ram I have is DDR333 PC2700. If I understand correctly, this means, that I have the wrong processors (my other machine has the 2400+ which also has 266 FSB) for my motherboard and ram combination. What are my best options in this situation?

Hey there Brian, well im not to savy with these bus speeds and stuff but I think you might of solved your own problem. Sounds like a good old fashoned electron bottle neck to me. Your probably just gunna have to leave that CPU multiplier in your bios to 133/33. I think that gives you 266mhz. Leaving your memory freq in auto should automaticaly detect the 266 from your CPU external freq and hopefully traffic will flow without any jams. I dont have much experience in this area so maybe Allen or someone can expand or correct me. Either way, if you want full speed you need everything to be capable of handling buss speeds up to 333Mhz and that chip isnt cutting it I guess.

I just got your email. Hard to believe that both motherboards were bad. Must have been a bad batch. I'd make sure you get the A7V333-X or X/L this time. It has the enhanced southbridge controller that seems to make a big difference in performance on the Davec Test.

errr...

what if you set everything to [AUTO] ?
check page 63 and 64 of the user's manual.

what does that ASUS monitoring software
utility say about the temperature household?

I also have an ASUS A7V333 but then with
an AMD XP 2000 and everything set to [AUTO] and I
ave disabled the onboard audio by jumper and by
bios.
