Default Upgrading to 16 channels of simultaneous I/O

So i have the digi 003 and am enjoying it so far, however I NEED to have more inputs than just eight. I believe it has the capability of expanding to around 16 channels using either of its digital I/O's. has anyone done this and what is a good 8 channel analog to digital pre amp? thanks,
caleb
