Sure you can connect a Mbox Studio to Cabon via ADAT. Would not be my first or second choice of a combo. If you are after more inputs you might be better off with other ADAT preamps, or at the higher end the Carbon Pre.

Both the Mbox Studio and Carbon are somewhat unusual boxes, the combo maybe more unusual. Make sure you understand them and what you are getting into.

It will work, if you want to use the MBox, you will need to debug what is going on, follow the signal in the MBox mixer to the ADAT outputs assuming that is what you are trying to do. Throw a test signal gen signal into an input so you can see it in the MBox mixer meters. Many problems using the MBox Studio seem to come down to dealing with the hardware mixer. Make sure the optical is set to ADAT and sample rates match, clocking is set correct, etc. Check stuff using your other ADAT boxes.

The implication here is that you are trying to add the Carbon to the MBox, not the MBox to the Carbon? In other words, just use the Carbon as an additional 8 mic pres, with only the MBox connected to the computer? If that's the case, you may find it easier to configure the Carbon to work in "Carbon Pre" mode, to just pass the mic input signals straight thriough to the ADAT out port(s).

Humm your posts are a bit vague on detail

What Exactly is it your are trying to do ?
Add the Focusrite to the Carbon I/O
OR
Add the Carbon to the Focusrite I/O ?

Which leads to
The Carbon was "not recognized" by the Focusrite
Or
The Focusrite was not recognized by the Carbon

super vague post but honestly as someone who owns both it would rule to be able to use m box studio as a sort of controller/extension of my carbon.

The Mbox studio buttons and dials are amazing feeling and fluid and it’s my new favorite reamp box because of the hi z outs and ins that are so well laid out.

if they linked in the way the apollo twin and racks did, it would be an awesome little console situation with monitor control and cue mixes for days and super versatile routing for outboard. Plus the preamps on both units are great supposedly they are the same but i love the mbox studio form factor it’s been my go to.
