Best Option for Increasing Track Count
Hi all,
Was looking for a bit of input on the best way to increase my track count. Using 7.4.2 with Leopard 10.5.4 Now, the Music Production Toolkit looks attractive, as there are 48 tracks and additional plugs etc... However; the price tag is approx. $475 Throwing PT8 into the mix (and I admittedly haven't read everything the net has to offer on PT8)...it seems as though it will include most of the features the MPT would give me (and more) at what I assume will be much less cost (upgrading from 7.4.2 to 8). Does my school of thought make sense? The only X factor I can see is the actual release date of PT8 and of course the inevitable compatibility issues. Thoughts welcome.

Re: Best Option for Increasing Track Count
Well all of the current systems and hardware supported under 7.4.2 are supported under 8.0 with the exception of I believe it may be Leopard only,
There are no new "Gee Whiz" under the hood features like Elastic Audio that I'm aware of. There are GUI changes and I would expect some funkiness there. There are a LOT of new features and that greatly increases the chance for bugs. I'm not saying that I expect it to be buggy but given all off the new and added features the potential exists. Not enough to scare me away though! Won't know till it ships...Like any other upgrade a good disk clone and a backup plan could save a lot of woe. I'm trying to say I see the compatibility as minor. The optional kits are good if you need the bundled plugs. I bought the original MPTK for the plugs. I'm not sure If ever used all 48 tracks. If all you need tracks I would wait for 8.0. They are bundling Eleven in the MPTK2 and that makes it VERY attractive to me-If of course I hadn't bought it a month or so ago.

Re: Best Option for Increasing Track Count
Well you could always update to MPTK2 to get Eleven. I believe I read that would be $49 to do that if I'm not mistaken. Then you get the plug-ins that you're missing.

Re: Best Option for Increasing Track Count
Would the cheapest way to get 48 (mono or stereo) tracks not be to just wait and upgrade to PT8 for US$149?
