Making HOT music is making my laptop overheat!!
Yes yes, I know this is a non PT question, but I wanted to ask it here since I know many of you deal with this problem.
As I start to dig into Pro-tools, my Mac Book Pro tends to get very hot and I wanted to know what cooling pads or methods you are using to cool them down, since I hear it can affect performance. Thanks... |

Re: Making HOT music is making my laptop overheat!!
I've gone through a lot of different brands, and I like this one so much that I bought a second one:
Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler Besides the fact that it works really well, drawing heat from the bottom of the laptop and dispersing it out the sides, I really like the fact that it has no exposed fans. So it can sit on a desk or your lap without blocking the fans. Very sturdy as well.

yeah, i've heard of SMC, but I dont really wanna mess with it. I hear that if you make adjustments and something goes wrong with your MBP down the line it can possible void your warranty.. What's your experience with it, has it drastically improved heat issues? |

There is a high and a low speed switch, and I use mine on high speed. If it were that noticeable, I would probably have changed it to low. And it also has a pass-thru USB connection, by the way, so you can plug another USB device in the same port.

Re: Making HOT music is making my laptop overheat!!
What MBP are you using?, 15 or 17 inch?.
I am using a 17" and I do not seem to get the issues you are getting, but I do know the 17" does NOT get anywhere near as hot as the 15" does. |
