Default Pro Tools won\'t launch...

Hey All,

I am an admitted noob to Macs and PT, and I have some questions.

I just purchased the 003 Factory and a Macbook Pro 2.4 Duo w 4 gig Ram... I purchased the Macbook with Tiger 10.4 (for compatibility), and low and behold...when it arrived Leopard had already been installed. To make things even more adventurous, I'm running the 003 with LE 7.3.

Now, I've read numerous threads indicating people having some moderate success using Leopard. So, I figure, heck, I'll give it a shot. I installed per the instructions, followed everything to the last detail, and PT won't launch. I recieve an error that states "Pro Tools Hardware is either not installed or used by another program". Now, I do have an external firewire 400 OWC drive, but I have removed this from the loop, and I am connecting the 003 directly to my 400 port on the macbook. Still, I recieve the error.

I'm aware I should expect some problems due to Leopard. My question is really...what is the best direction to go from here. From the user expereince on the boards...would the consensus think that the error is due to the compatibility issue or am I missing something incredibley obvious?

I've seen some say that at least PT will launch in Leopard with LE 7.4... Is 7.3 an absolute no go?

What I'm considering:

1) Upgrading to 7.4 and trying again.
2) Drinking a bottle of whiskey and laughing at the lake.
3) Praying some expereinced user will offer some good advice.

Go easy...I am a noob.

Thx everyone...

Unfortunately, this seems to be the case. The only discs that came with the Mac are 10.5...

I should just fill the tub up and grab the toaster now huh?

I guess the bottom line is...if you are new to Pro Tools and you'd like to be Mac based, you are SOL... I searched for quite some time to find a stock Mac with 10.4, and I was confident I found one (spoke with the seller over the phone and everything to ensure I was purchasing a unit with 10.4). It arrived with Leopard, and I honestly don't think there are very many units on store shelves that don't have Leopard already installed.

What's the consumer to do Digi? Considering the price tag on an 003, it's extremely disheartening to struggle just for basic functionality... 10.4 isn't on the shelves anymore!

I take your point but it's a little harsh to blame Digi for the fact you were 'duped' into buying a Mac on the pretense that it came with Tiger when it didn't.

Have you looked at the suggested work-around of a dual boot system?

Mac OSX 10.5

BTW I'm not sure eating toast in the bathtub will help!

I know...it is a bit harsh (sighs)... Just want to get to work, and my patience and frustration tolerances are low at the moment. However, I will push forward and continue to learn and I'm sure I'll ultimately be happy. Thanks for the suggestion.

And, you'd be surprised what some good toast in the tub can achieve!

If you just purchased 7.3 you should qualify for the free upgrade to 7.4, then no worries

I had the same issue and that took care of it.
