Default Bit Depth for Audio Suite Dither

Using PT 7.4 LE. Session is at 44.1khz, 24 bit. Under Setup/Preferences/Processing/Audio Suite, there is a section for selecting the Bit Depth for applying dither to certain audio suite plugins (Gain, Normalize, Smack!) The choices are 24, 20, 18 and 16 bits. I am assuming that in a 24 bit session I should use 24 bit dither, but that is my question? No guidance given in the PT Reference Guide.

To clarify, I am not asking about the Bit Depth used on the insert on the master fader when bouncing to disk when creating a file to make a CD, I know that is 16 bit.

First of all, sometimes it may take a while for the right user that knows a lot about your question to come on the forums.

Secondly, you do not have to choose a specific bit depth based on what you picked for the master/session. It is preferably up to you and what you think sounds best.

Thanks for the reply. I had posted during Christmas and my post moved down to page 2 since there weren't many users on the forum for a few days. I have the bit depth set to 24 for the Audio Suite default, and when I use a Plugin such as Normalize, the results seem fine, so I guess I will stick with that setting.
