Synth Questions
Ok, I know that this is the digi site for digi questions, but I have 3 questions regarding synths:
1. What is another good site for asking synth questions, which is as up to date and the people are as helpful as this site is? (so I don't have to waste your time on this board) 2. For those who know, what is the best budget synth: Alesis qsr.1, roland rs5, or yamaha s03? What is the best for all around spectrum of good sounds? 3. What does aftertouch mean? |

Re: Synth Questions
1- www.sonicstate.com, www.recording.org, www.synthzone.com, www.intermusic.com, www.prorec.com, etc.
2-It depends what you're looking for in a synth. I've never liked the sound of Alesis synths. I've read good reviews about the Yamaha but have never tried it. The Roland RS-5 is a damn fine synth for it's price, and the XV sound engine is the best of that bunch. Bear in mind that the RS series are not expandable, so you're stuck with the presets. You might look into a Roland XP-30, even used (ebay, etc.), a real bang for the buck. I won't tell you the specs, there are too many, you can look them up. good luck, pk

Re: Synth Questions
accameron,
Aftertouch means that you can strike a key on a synth and then press the key down harder to increase the velocity(volume). Marc |

Re: Synth Questions
...or control filters or whatever your synth is able to control by assigning it to aftertouch.

Re: Synth Questions
What type of music do you compose? This will help narrow down your choices for a synth.

Re: Synth Questions
I have a dumb synth question - I have an Alesis QS 6.1, which controls a Roland XP80 - the Roland keys are shot. Can I somehow import a few of the Roland sounds that I like into the alesis so I don't have to hook up the roland? I know that the alesis is supposed to be expandable, but I'm not sure how.

Re: Synth Questions
do you have a sampler? If you do then sample the sounds into the sampler and set it up across the paino range
