Default Re: Delay Compensation / Recording Issues

We are giving you clues as what to look at but you need to do the work. There should be no surprise delay comp might not appear to be working, wether working as designed and say hitting limits, or because it might have yet another bug, or maybe who knows, you have a corrupt session.

What does the display comp values show? An early thing to look at any time delay comp does not seem to be working. Is it maxed out? Are some tracks showing bizarre high values you don’t expect?

What is the delay comp error on that track vs what you expect it to be (make plugins inactive (not bypass) or subtract their known latency). Measure it as best you can. Is that 2048 samples exactly?

Can be helpful to look at the track/signal path dominating latency and see if it makes sense, ditto for the track you are recording.

Changing the buffer size to a small value might make up for some problems… or might not and that is then a big clue…. i.e. is problem likely a plugin or IO???? Why didn’t you try that before?

There are bugs in delay comp, especially ones I have talked about a lot here that most clearly affect HW insets in some situations. And related to that…You using sends? Got LLM enabled or disabled? Allow sends to persist during LLM is checked or not? You using H/W inserts?

And there sure can be bugs in delay values reported by plugins… but they tend to be much smaller. Although look out for any crazy large look ahead and/or upsampling limiters etc.

Still stuck, copy the session and start removing stuff or maybe disabling tracks and try to simplify until the problem goes away.

It is highly unlikely somebody here will just guess an answer to your problem. You have to take time to troubleshoot what is going on in your session with your setup.
