Default Mbox 3 mini stereo acoustic guitar recording

I work with a new Mbox 3 mini, and it is a wonderful little machine. However, it seems that - even as I have two gain knobs - only the XLR input is being preamped. How could I make nice acoustic guitar recordings, in original stereo with 2 mics then?

There is only one mic preamp in that unit. The second gain knob is only for the DI on input 2.

To use a second microphone, you need to get an external preamp and plug it into the line input 2.

It depends on which model it is as to whether it would work.

Honestly your best bet, if you are wanting to make stereo recordings, is to sell the Mini and get the regular Mbox, which has 2 mic preamps built in. Doing that would still be cheaper than just about any other workaround involving getting a second preamp.

Or, if you just got the Mini, see if it's possible to return or exchange it.
