Default Mbox <-> Digi002

Hi

Is there any difference in sound quality between the Mbox and DIgi002 ?

I'm very interested in the PTLE products and was looking forward the Digi002 but I'm thinking about going for a Mbox now since I'll move a lot during the coming year, and wait a little for the Digi002... (if that makes any sense )

Thanks a lot

I would wait and buy the 002. More input capabilities, and users have less problems!

THe converters are better, I am not sure about the preamps. 002 gives you room to grow.

thanks

In fact I haven't seen one in person yet, is the 002 kind of "portable" as far as size/weight are concerned ?

the 002 is about the same size as a Mackie 1604. Whether that's portable is up to you.

The 002 is about the size of Anna Nichole Smith's ass before weight loss. "Like my booooody"? Quite managable.

if your going for portable, the 002 rack is the way to go.

hey there... I am an mBox (just got it a few months ago) user hopefully someday soon to switch over to 002 (I need the extra inputs and outputs). But let me tell you my story and hope it helps your decision. I have been wanting Pro Tools since the day the 001 came out, but was always really tight on money. When the mBox came out I didn't even consider it, I really didn't want so few inputs, then the 002 came out and I almost crapped my pants. The one thing that had stopped me form getting the 001 (aside from $$$) was that in order to get it to run on a laptop you needed a really expensive compenent, I had even considered the MOTU 828 because it was Firewire, but no software came with it. So the 002 was a dream come true. Well I could never affor a $2000+ unit, then came the 002 rack, so I needed to come up with $1200, that was still out of reach but years later after being sick and tired of being too broke to afford it I gave in and got an mBox. Man, I should have gotten this in the beginning and not wasted years of no recording. Really with Reason I can have plenty of fun with his and still record guitar tracks and other instruments (just one at a time). Now I am more familiar with Pro Tools software so this summer I will trade the mBox in for an 002rack and I will know what I am doing and then I can have even more fun.

My point is, if you see yourelf affording the 002 within a few months I would wait. But if it is far from your reach to spend $1200, I would spend the $500 and get the mBox for now. Believe me, you will have fun.

I hope the ramble helps!!!

MBox is great, I haven't had any issues with it. Learn Protools, and when you can afford the 002, you'll already know the program. If you're mixing in the box, you don't really need more outputs anyway. The only difference is that the Mbox only goes to 48K, while 002 and rack go to 96K. Since I don't have any expensive mics, preamps, or anything really, I don't knwo how much 96K would help me now, and I'm happy with the osudn of 24/44.1. Best of luck. I was on Sonar before getting my mbox in December, now I absolutely love Protools and don't know how I worked without it.

And believe you me, there are plenty of pro sessions being done at 24/44.1 that are using expensive mics, preamps, etc (unless it is being mixed to something other than CD/DAT....ie 1/2" tape).

The Kid.
