Default Multiple Eleven Racks in the same Pro Tools Session...

I don't use the Eleven Rack as an audio interface but I'm curious, has anyone tried controlling 2 or more Eleven Racks in the same Pro Tools session? Does it work?

This would be cool if you had two guitarists in and you wanted to record them both a the same time through headphones and you, as the audio engineer, wanted to control their sounds in the control room via the Pro Tools software at the same time.

To repeat, I'm not passing audio over USB, just controlling presets via the Pro Tools software. This is mostly a Pro Tools software question.

Just curious.

I have two 11Rs, and a few weeks ago, wanted to see if ProTools could use them both simultaneously. I attached both 11Rs to my Mac via USB, and what I found was that on launch, Pro Tools opened two 11R GUIs, and each GUI was associated with a different 11R, and worked properly with its respective 11R (the GUI windows were named "Eleven Rack 1" and "Eleven Rack 2"). BUT - Protools would not recognize both 11Rs as audio interfaces, and only showed one as a possible input device.

So, short answer: you should be able to control the patches with two 11Rs in independent GUIs over USB, but you won't be able to do audio for both over USB.

With two 11Rs, each could send their signal out by way of AES/EBU, and the engineer could enable embedded presets on their respective audio tracks.

If a "dry" guitar track was recorded at the same time as the modeled track, the engineer could "re-amp" or otherwise process the dry guitar signal at a later time.

Thanks! Exactly the info I was looking for.

I recently recorded a band in my studio and had 2 guitar players tracking simultaneosly through headphones. One went into the 11R the other into a POD HD 500. Controlling the sounds in the 11R was quick and easy via the editor in Pro Tools and I went AES/EBU into my interface. It's nice that with the 11R is, you can "save" your settings right in the WAV file should you want to recall them later. Also I use the "split" feature to record one mono processed track and one unprocessed dry track for potential re-amping later. It works great!

The POD HD 500 has similar capabilities however I had some digital noise on the SPDIF output on clean sounds that I couldn't get rid of, so I used the balanced analog outputs. I preferred the sounds and the interaction from the 11R by far so thinking if I can snag a 2nd one from ebay for under $500 that it might be worth having around the studio.
