Default Singing Underwater?

I have a session next week where I have to make a vocalist sound like he's singing underwater.

I was wondering if anyone has ever done this and if you used plug-in's or unconventional recording techniques.

One method we've discussed is wrapping a 57 in a condom, putting it in a tub of water while the singer puts his face in the water and sings. I'm serious.

Any tips would really help. Thanks.

I've done this several times with dialogue, but never with a singer, so it might not be exactly what you're after. But here's my 2-part process:

First, put your mic in the bottom of a kitchen-size plastic wastebasket and record the singer singing into it. No water involved.

Then fill a fishtank or a 5-gallon water bottle with water. Mic from the outside. Using vinyl tubing, judiciously overdub bubbles.

Insert a flange and set the rate and depths to achiever a warbly underwater effect, then use the mix control to adjsut the wet/dry combination unitl you achieve intelligibility and the desired effect.

Hope this is helpful.

The Eventide has a watery effect ??

This might just be what where02190 just described but the Eventide one was very cool.
