"Selected ASIO audio device could not be initialized" Protools 10/11
Hello!
My new computer cannot run sound through my profire 2626. Just got a brand new computer. Window's 7 x64 professional. New msi motherboard did not come with firewire port so I purchased a texas instruments firewire SIIG NN-E20012-S2 chip to add to the new computer so I could run the profire 2626. After installing drivers, both the Firewire card and the profire show up in device manager. The profire shows as being a working device. However, when I make the Profire my default device in Windows 7 sound panel recording/playback tabs, I get no reading on the meters indicating any sound coming through the profire, even when i click the "test" button. Windows will play no sound through the profire. When the profire is selected as the default playback device, youtube will not even play for more than 12 seconds without freezing, oddly enough, and of course, no sound. However the profire does work in standalone and I can play instruments through it, and open the mixer and such. It is like the profire is not speaking to windows somehow. Protools does not allow me to use the profire as my asio. It will not get past the splash loadup screen in PT without saying (selected asio device could not be initialized) I have tried this firewire card on my old computer and profire works just fine on it. I am able to use the profire as my default device in windows sound, and in protools 10 as well on my old system. I have reinstalled drivers again and again for the profire and switched to (legacy) mode for the firewire drivers. Which then lets me load a Protools session at least, but protools will not play any audio. I've swapped pci slots that my card is in. I've turned off motherboard audio, tried asio4all, I've imported windows settings from old computer. I've completely reinstalled windows and left out all onboard sound drivers. I've started with a clean windows install and still windows does not play sound through the profire. No system sounds, and protools also will not recognize as an ASIO device. Could this be a motherboard issue? I have a new msi x99 gaming 7 motherboard with a 5820k i7 chip. Maybe there needs to me a driver update??? I've worked on this for 3 days now with no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! :) |

Maybe try rolling the firewire drivers back to "legacy" could help. I've had that issue before, try following these steps: http://www.studio1productions.com/Ar...Firewire-1.htm

Yes I've tried using the legacy firewire drivers already. I can then load up a session in PT but as soon as I hit the play button, nothing happens. The play cursor just goes away and no audio plays. Also I still cannot play sound through windows with profire set to default playback device.
I am really thinking that this is a compatibility issue between this msi board and the TI chipset. The firewire card and profire both work great on my old computer running the same win7 pro. So it can't be windows, or the firewire card. Either that or m-audio needs to release a new driver. I wish I had another firewire device to try to see if I get the same bad results. I plan on buying another firewire card with a different chipset to test out. I've heard that some MSI boards have trouble with certain firewire cards. My x99 board and chipset were released literally weeks ago. So there hasn't been much testing with these boards. |

Kind of sounding that way to me too. Have you checked the manufacturer's website for any BIOS updates for the motherboard? I would also post a SANDRA here.
