Default The dreaded H/W Buffer Size (Error 9092) message...

Ok, I am officially out of ideas. I've recently put together a PC and am now trying to get my usual Pro Tools stuff working. Whenever I try to record on Pro Tools (Mbox2 Pro, Pro Tools 8.0.5) I get the Error 9092 message. I've tried adijusting the buffer (all settings), deleting my prefs, making sure I'm NOT running on RAID, turning my wifi and virus protection off, making sure my Firewire is running in Legacy (via device mamager) mode, uninstalling and reinstalling Pro Tools and nothing has worked.

I'm fearing I have some kind of compatibility issue, but I can't put my finger on it. I'm posting my SANDRA report below, hopefully someone could help me out.

Did you also try reducing the number of cores used by Pro Tools?

I've tried eliminating one (0, specifically), than just working on a single processor--neither have worked.

Update: I've also tried uninstalling all NVIDIA video drivers (running on generic VGA interface at the moment) and audio codecs, STILL nothing.

Why does the Sandra say the system has 8GB of total RAM, but only show 1 stick of 4GB?

Beats me. The computer says 8GB, and there are indeed two identical sticks of 4GB in the box.

maybe not any help, but I didn't see any info on your audio drive, (speed/ cache)? I'm also curious about the 'C' drive at 5940 RPM/ and 26 MB cache? And your audio drive (drives ?) are Fire Wire,,, (Your 'F' drive says FW 1394/ SATA 3.5?) Also, noticed that RAM timing is 9-9-9-24,,, is this common for this RAM/MOBO combo? I haven't researched these, nor am I familiar with the newer drives out there! I'm just wondering if your bottle neck is your audio drive? really should be 7200 RPM and best with 32 MB cache (and internal)??? Best of luck! ---- Mike

Another thought,, I just read another thread answered by 'the weed',, and he mentioned that a VIA FW controller can be a problem,, ( your fire wire 2 has a VIA controller!). ------- Mike

Wow, that's a lot of stuff!

For some reason my C drive is only clocking at 26MB cache, though it's rated at 32 MB (if memory serves), my Buffalo external drive has an internal SATA drive, it runs to the computer via firewire--it IS rated at 7200RPM and 32MB cache, so I don't know what's going on there.

I'm afraid I'm not quite experienced enough to understand what RAM timing is (I've only been playing with building and cracking open computers for about a month).

As per your other post, I have two sets of Firewire ports (2-800, 1-400 and another pair of 400's), I've tried them both and still nothing.

I'm seriously thinking about converting this damn thing into a Hackintosh...

try reseating both memory sticks, ensure that it is actually making contact with the motherboard connector. It could explain the reason only 1 stick is showing.
