Default Elastic Audio - Crackling, Popping, and Distortion

Anybody had problems with crackling, popping, and distortion on tracks after using Elastic Audio. Not sure if this problem is because I'm running SL, or maybe something about the FireWire drive.

Help please!

Are you eating rice krispies by any chance?

Fact is, you a going to have to give a bit more information about what you are doing, your system, and what's happening before anyone will be able to give you any useful information..

Look throuh the HELP US HELP YOU and the Troubleshooting threads at the begining of this, (and most) forums.. : http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=193636

Not trying to be a snot here, but it's kind of like going onto a food website and saying "My stew tastes funny, can anyone help?"

Peace!

You get pretty bad artifacts from EA.

I find it needs to used sparingly and ideally on tracks that will be well masked by the rest of the mix.

You can always experiment with the different algorithms.

If I was eating Rice Crispies, it must have been the "magic" kind...
I realized that I was getting crackling on ALL of my tracks. After reading through pages and pages of threads, I found a little comment by DIGI to reduce the number of processors dedicated to RTAS in Playback Engine Setup by one less than the total number. I reduced mine from 2 to 1, and "VOILA!" no more Rice Crispies. Thank GOD! I thought it was going to be some big hardware issue or something. I'm back in the saddle again!

OK. Right after I posted the last post I got back on and the crackling was back. I connected an ethernet cable and turned off my Wi-Fi and everything seems to be great. Maybe it was the Wi-Fi and the number of dedicated RTAS processors.

I'll post again if I have any further problems.

BTW, I'm running PT8 on a MacBook Pro Intel Dual Core 2.6GHZ with 4GB RAM, Snow Leopard, and the SL pre-release downloaded, with an MBox2.

So I had problems again, and I checked the "ignore errors during playback/record" and changed "host processors" back to 2 processors. Then about 30 minutes later I had the problem again and UNchecked "ignore errors during playback/record" in the playback engine dialog box under setup and it fixed it again! Weird...doing the opposite action fixed the problem again!?!

You are running an external drive for audio right?

Have you trashed preferences and databases yet on all drives? Are you connecting anything via ADAT optical or Spdif connections? It would help to know a lot more about your setup? It will help people to help you troubleshoot your issue a lot more quickly if we know exactly what your rig consists of.

Yes I'm running a Seagate 400GB FireWire Drive. It's a FW400 and I bought a $10 chord to convert the MacBook Pro FW800 t0 400. Not sure if the Seagate has the DIGI tested TI chip or not. Not sure if the drive is what's creating the problems....

Thanks for the suggestion. I've modified my signature, but I'm not running any ADAT or anything that would cause a sync problem. I did trash prefs and databases and it still comes back every now and then.
