Default Re: Question about an older Mac Pro and possible older versions of Pro Tools HD

The more I am looking around.

I am curious what the best options are to update the PT HD Software.

I definitly don't want an Ilok Asset that can't be mine if that makes sense.

I am not for sure if it is sensable to spend the crazy amount of money it would take to go up to 10 since i am gonna be getting HDX in the future.

What would be the last free upgrade from where i am?

or would there be a reseller that would sell me an Authorizer that is new?

7.3 was a paid upgrade, so you are stuck where you are.

Whatever Avid has done with iLok regarding assets is applicable to even your 7.2 asset.

In all honesty a newer Mac Pro and a HD|N card may be your best bet. You will get pro tools 11 and could keep your current rig mostly together. Just swap your interface back and forth. Or get a new interface and have two complete rigs. As crazy as it sounds it's probably not that much more expensive.

According to the avid store, upgrading to 10 from 7 is $2499. I somehow doubt that includes a free PTHD11 upgrade. So add $599 for that. $3098.

While it looks like you can't buy just the HD|N card without an interface, maybe talk to a dealer. I did see one on eBay for $1995 w/software. Just be sure you get the software license if you to second hand.
