Default 5.1 Auxiliary Input track count limits

The reference manual states that PT 6.4 HD3 supports up to 128 mono or 128 stereo aux input tracks. It doesn't say anything about 5.1 Aux inputs. Anyone know what the limit is on them?

Hi.
I don't recall that Pro Tools HD systems can do 128 stereo Aux tracks. I thought it was just 128 aux tracks total. Anyway, I think you just do the math when it comes to multichannel tracks. But the number of Auxes you can have is self limiting in a way. Since there are only 64 internal busses, you can only have ten 5.1 aux inputs fed from those. You can have 96 physical I/Os and that could put you over if 128 mono Auxes is the limit but not if you're right about 128 stereo Auxes. That's 156 total Aux "channels" so far. If you weren't bringing in any "outside " sources with the I/Os, you could add a number of 5.1 reverb returns, but if you've maxed out your voices (192 voices=6 DSPs) and had all the above mentioned internal Aux Buss mixers (10), I know you'de be deep into the third card's DSP chips, leaving little room for Plugins. One instance of a good reverb can take one or more chips. Man, is Digi going to make a lot of money selling extra Accel card's or what?

Update. I just created 128, 5.1 channel Aux inputs with Pro tools 6.4cs7. That's the max.

Excellent! How much DSP did that take?

Well, none. I didn't route anything anywhere . I just wanted to see how many I could have.
