X32 Rack, Pro Tools 12.5 on a Mac, Aggregate I/O Problem
By selecting "X-USB" as the Playback Engine in PT, I can input & output thru the Behringer X32 Rack just fine.
I am trying to input thru the X32 Rack and output thru the internal speakers in the Mac "Built-in Output 1-2". The output meter fluctuates, but no sound is present on the Mac. "Built-in Output 1-2" is selected as the output for the stereo audio track. What am I missing? |

X32 Rack, Pro Tools 12.5 on a Mac, Aggregate I/O Problem
The "Built-in Output" is just a label. It could have any name you can choose in the I/O Setup. In fact if you choose X-USB as your playback engine it will be the X32 exclusively and you can not choose your computer's speakers or any other output of another device.
If you really need to have this setup, you need to create an Aggregate Device in the Audio-MIDI Setup application of your Mac containing both devices, the X32 and the Mac built in device.

Re: X32 Rack, Pro Tools 12.5 on a Mac, Aggregate I/O Problem
This is what I have done. Playback engine is "Pro Tools Aggregate I/O". It combines the Behringer X32 "X-USB" and "Built-in Output". See attached JPEGs.

Re: X32 Rack, Pro Tools 12.5 on a Mac, Aggregate I/O Problem
One important factor you're forgetting is that Protools is limited to 32 I/O, even with aggregate audio. So if you're using all 32 outs of the X32, you won't be able to add the built in outs or any other outs.

He could probably delete a pair of outputs in the I/O setup page to get around this limitation......right?

In the aggregate definition you can move them to the first position.

Re: X32 Rack, Pro Tools 12.5 on a Mac, Aggregate I/O Problem
YYR123, I tried that. Still doesn't work.
The official answer from Avid is the 32 channel limitation. It's not that big a deal. I can assign X32 inputs & outputs in blocks of 8 channels. Therefore I can use "X-USB" (the Behringer X32 interface) as the Playback engine instead of "Pro Tools Aggregate I/O" and still have 24 input channels and 8 output channels - or any combination in groups of 8.
