Default Re: HD Accel plug-in counts Digi please explain.

Hi Dutchmuzik.

Because we haven't optimized our plug-ins to have more than one instance on an Accel chip we automatically have them choose the "old" HD chips first. This leaves room for optimized plugs to run on your powerfull chips. They will run on an Accel chip if that's all that is left on your system.

We are working on updating the UltraTools line of plug-ins to be optimized on the newer chips and chip share, but this is a tremendous amount of work, and we have no set date when these changes will be complete.

Noah thanks for your response but that is exactly my problem. Soundblender will NOT run on 3 of the "new" Accel chips. It runs fine on the 2 "old" HD chips and the 4 "new" HD chips but not on the 3 "new" HD chips that don't have the off chip memory. There seems to be a lot of conflicting information about this but all my tests indicate that this is the case. So in the case of Soundblender I would theoretically be able to run 9 on the "old" HD Process card and only 6 on the "new" HD Accel card. And as far as updating your plug-ins I doubt that it will make a difference. Echofarm, Eventide Reverb, Indigo, Princeton Digital 2016 and the rest are all Accel updated plug-ins but none of them can run ANY instance on these 3 Accel chips.

I guess you can count me out for the HD to HD-Accel upgrade. I hated dealing with different kinds of DSP on the mix systems, now we have to deal with it again on Accell. I'll probably see more gain buying a new G5, and it's about the same price!

wow...I can't believe Digi went back to this scheme using different DSPs. That scheme gave me so much trouble with the mix system. Count me out for upgrading to Accel.

Hi Dutch,

We will look into this problem and see if it's true for us as well. Hopefully we will have the answer and a solution shortly. Bob who deals with this is on vacation for another week, so we won't have a solution before then, but I do understand that this can be very annoying, and we will work on fixing it. We have had SoundBlender running on only Accel chips so it should be possible.

Hi everyone,

I also made my investigations. Here are the results:

McDSP Filterbank E6 / process chip 9x / Accel A chip 18x / Accel B chip 18x
Fairchild / process chip 3x / Accel A chip 8x / Accel B chip 8x
Pultec / process chip 3x / Accel A chip 6x / Accel B chip 8x
Autotune / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 2x / Accel B chip 0x
Echofarm / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 0x
D-Verb / process chip 4x / Accel A chip 6x / Accel B chip 2x
Reverb One / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 1x
Indigo / process chip 8x / Accel A chip 8x / Accel B chip 0x

On the Accel card the chips 1-2 are 'process chips', 3-6 are 'Accel A chips', 7-9 are 'Accel B chips'.
So you can see, there are lot of plugs, that profitate from Accel, but Echofarm or Autotune do not.

The only reason I can find to jump to the accel bandwagon is ADC, maybe not worth the $$$$

Ok here are some more tests, the most dissapointing thing is that ADC Long Delay does NOT work on the 3 Accel "B" chips. So using long ADC on an Accel system takes up another chip that could be used by a plug-in that needs it. The following are on mono tracks and I only tested my most frequently used plug-ins that apply to my setup. It is a 44.1, 24 bit session.

OxfordEQ + Filters / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 6x / Accel B chip 6x
Waves LINEQ Broadband / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 5x / Accel B chip 3x
URSNeq/ process chip 15x / Accel A chip 34x / Accel B chip 34x
URSAeq/ process chip 17x / Accel A chip 39x / Accel B chip 39x
Waves Renaissance Channel/ process chip 3x / Accel A chip 7x / Accel B chip 7x
McDSP Analog Channel 1 / process chip 28x / Accel A chip 56x / Accel B chip 56x
BF Pultec/ process chip 3x / Accel A chip 6x / Accel B chip 6x
UA 1176LN / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 1x
UA 1176SE / process chip 6x / Accel A chip 10x / Accel B chip 10x
UA LA2A/ process chip 4x / Accel A chip 8x / Accel B chip 8x
Eventide H949 / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 2x / Accel B chip 0x
Eventide Reverb / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 0x
UA 1176LN / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 1x
Reso/Bruno / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 0x
Princeton Digital 2016 / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 0x
Soundtoys Soundblender / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 1x / Accel B chip 0x
TL EveryPhase / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 6x / Accel B chip 6x
Waves MetaFlanger/ process chip 18x / Accel A chip 34x / Accel B chip 12x
AmpFarm / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 5x / Accel B chip 5x
Waves MondoMod / process chip 21x / Accel A chip 38x / Accel B chip 24x
Waves Enigma / process chip 5x / Accel A chip 12x / Accel B chip 7x
Waves L2 / process chip 4x / Accel A chip 10x / Accel B chip 10x
SansAmp PSA-1 / process chip 1x / Accel A chip 3x / Accel B chip 3x
MDW EQ / process chip 2x / Accel A chip 4x / Accel B chip 4x
Digidesign Extra Long Delay II uses 11% plug-in sharing of an "A" Accel chip and then moves to the next chip ? Accel B chip 0x

Oh I'm just so happy I didn't do an exchange from HD2 non Accel to HD2 Accel and just bought an extra old HD process card. I just knew there would be a world of trouble with mixed chips again.

ADC doesn't require Accel, thank god. Get 6.4 it's awesome.
