I don't think that's how it works.

A qualified computer means Avid have tested it and confirmed that it can be used in a stable system. Until it is listed as such on their website it is not qualified. The fact that you have found it to be a stable system is not the same thing.

Windows Task Manager Displaying Physical Memory Usage followed by Auto Save disabling due to not enough memory. Pro Tools HD Native 9.0.3.

Avid does not qualify based on FireWire and with thunderbolt every Mac will be capable of FireWire and esata very soon. Avid does not test every Mac only the listed PCs. Avid does not include the new MBP 13 inch or Airs because they have integrated graphics. Keep in mind the Intel HD3000 graphics take processing power to enable enough to play more mainstream games. With 4 threads I think as long as you limit pro tools to 2 you should be fine. I think the first 15 inch would definitely last you 2-3 years. Or the second iMac as well would be a great option. Pro tools 10 will without a doubt be 64bit and OS x lion and above or something like that, when this happens the HD 3000 will become a problem. I'd go with something that has dedicated graphics.

Well, a 4 core 15" MBP is $500 cheaper to buy via Hong Kong than it is here in Australia. With my sister living in HK, I guess I can afford a 4 core i7 afterall

I've had an Imac before, but laptops are way more convenient for 'on the fly' work. Truth be told i'd prefer a 13", but power is everything I guess

Ok, your profile says you have a 2.26GHz Macbook Pro. I believe that is a Core 2 Duo model right ? Not one of the current models that use i5 or i7 processors.

If that's the case you're absolutely right, it is 100% supported because it is qualified (as listed on Avid site).

The original poster mentioned he was considering upgrading to a new 13" Macbook Pro which with an i5 or i7 processor is not currently qualified by Avid. It was to this notion that I was replying.

Pro Tools is actually using 3.7 GB because Windows 7 is using 800MB. You have the proof, any thing less and you would be calling me a liar.

Now you're just being silly. There is no proof contained in your screenshot. All you have to do is post a screenshot of the Processes tab and that will settle the discussion. Why won't you do that?
