Default ProTools HD8 maintenance

I am running a Venue Profile attached to a ProTools 8 HDx rig for recording. The last couple of times I have tried to record it tells me in the middle of recording that the system is out of space. I checked the 2 local drives and there is ample space. I also checked the two external drives and they also had ample space (385GB free space). The computer is a Mac Pro that is maybe 2 years old. Is there a tutorial somewhere for doing a tune up?

Thank you,

Brian

Hi Brian,

Hard drive maintenance:
Open DiskUtility, make sure your drive is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Manually erase Digi-Database folders. Erase unused files. Empty the bin. Open PT, open workspace, right-click the recording drive, select 'update database for selected'. This may take a while. I usually do it over night.

Check PT: What's your sample-rate and bit depth? The maximum file size is 2GB. Maybe you reached the max?!?

Do a full digi-test (in the digidesign folder in applications).

Do a test recording. Set up max no of tracks, keep recording for a while. Keep an eye on the system usage window. That may point you to the weak link.

For system tuning check this link:

Best,

Jan
