Can't get ADAT Optical I/O in Yamaha DM 2000 talking to 002 Rack
To maximize tracks I have 8 XLR mic ins going insert out from my Yamaha DM 2000 mixer and into my 8 analog 002 Rack line inputs. In the Yamaha I've patched channels 9-16 to my Waves Y56K ADAT Optical slot. I have the i/o lightpipe cables running in correct directions from the slot card to the 002 Rack optical i/o to get my other 8 tracks into Pro Tools. I've created new paths in my I/O setup in Pro Tools and designated each path accordingly with the optical ins. I've set up the Hardware options to Internal Optical I/O in the hardware setup. I've got a signal coming into my mixer lighting up the meter from the mic. But when I arm the track and try to record I get nothing....anyone?

Re: Can't get ADAT Optical I/O in Yamaha DM 2000 talking to 002 Rack
Not sure why you had to set up new paths in I/O setup... Just renaming them?
Your hardware setup should be to clock via ADAT, not internal.. That's probably your issue. Make sure your sample rates are the same on both systems... I suppose that if you are sending the 8 ch of ADAT out of your 002 and into the yamaha, then you could have the mixer clock to protools, but you didn't say that. Bottom line is that 1 device is the master and the other(s) slave to it.

Re: Can't get ADAT Optical I/O in Yamaha DM 2000 talking to 002 Rack
since the 002 rack didn't automatically identify the optical ins I created new paths and named them. I restated everything with a different sample rate (48) on both pieces of hardware and pro tools now sees the optical tracks in but when armed doesn't get a signal....

Are you sure you have things routed correctly from the Yamaha?
Can you try to verify that you're getting optical out of the Yamaha by doing a loopback test? |

Not sure how to do a loopback test since it's a expansion slot card...any suggestions. There are menus galore on the Yamaha. I do keep hearing a consistent crackle every minute or two come into my armed track in Pro Tools and at the same time in my mixing console...???

Re: Can't get ADAT Optical I/O in Yamaha DM 2000 talking to 002 Rack
This may sound a bit basic, but have you actually put the transport into record in Pro Tools, or have you just been monitoring the signal while the track is record-armed?? It's a possibility that your track is set to Auto Input Monitoring, rather than Input Only...
Just a thought... Cheers, Jeremy. |

"crackling" sounds like a clock/sample rate mismatch. Did you set ProTools to clock to an external ADAT source?
