Default increase hw buffer size/lost connection with 002R

hello....i do not have an analog mixer so i do all of my drum eq'ing and many other things with the rdas plugins and as soon as i begin using a couple plugins the 'increase hw buffer size' error comes up even though its all the way up and often protools loses connection with the 002R and has to reset it....i cannot do any long recording because one of the 2 errors will occur. what can i do to fix this??is the only solution a mixer and analog effects? i dont know much about computers so heres maybe some relevant info: im using a new powerbook g4 with 1gb of ram and the 002 rack is plugged in through USB and im running a begringer ada8000 through the optical port of the 002R. is a solution to get more ram? is it anyway possible to get the errors to stop and be able to use a large amount of plugins? thanks in advance

How many tracks are you running? Your hard disk may be having problems keeping up. Are you sure the 002 is plugged in via USB? Or do you mean Firewire? Is the problem having primarily when you record? Or all the time?

If you are running system 10.4.4 or 10.4.5, make sure you have downloaded the latest cs version of ProTools7. Also, make sure your plug-ins are the latest versions.

That's firewire not USB, which doesn't really matter for our discussion. Make sure you have downloaded the latest cs update from the Digidesign site. Just because you just purchased it, you should not assume that it hasn't been sitting on a shelf for months. Find the ProTools application icon, click on it once. When it is highlighted, go to the File menu at the top of the desktop. Choose Get Info. When the window pops open, click on the little gray triangle next to General. You should now be able to see a detailed description, telling you the version of PT7 you have. If it is not cs4, you do not have the latest cs version.

so i have pro tools 6.9.2 and i checked the cs updates and and the latest said nothing about the errors i was getting...should i still download and install it?...i have 1GB Ram and its a new powerbook would getting more ram solve the h/w buffer size or loss of connection between the computer and digi002 rack problem? i cant record long sessions of instruments at all or even leave pro tools open without encountering the loss of connection error, what are the drastic measures i could take to solve the problem if there aren't any slight changes that could do it? thanks

If you just purchased your 002 a month ago, you are entitled to a free upgrade to PT7 via the Digi website. A new Powerbook likely has OS 10.4.3, 10.4.4, or 10.4.5. I had a horrible time until I DL'ed PT7cs3. I have PT7cs4 now and my problems have become less.

Register your purchase online and you should receive PT7 download instructions. If not, call them.
