That’s not true and is often repeated around these parts for some reason.

Whilst it’s not as easy as in the past before all the security chips started to form part of the computer, it can still be done. You’ll need to use the Configurator 2 app and have a secondary Mac. You’re essentially putting the Mac in DFU mode like you do with iPhone restores etc.

That machine you have originally shipped with Ventura. It was macOS 13.4 so that version and anything upwards can definitely be installed.

This issue seems to go back and forth. Some state that the latest which ship with Sonoma can under no circumstances downgrade to Ventura (and claim that Apple has said as much) and others say it's possible, just not easy. These are contrary claims and only one can be correct. I'm not needing to downgrade but I'm honestly not sure which claim is technically correct.

As I said above, that machine shipped with macOS 13.4 so it natively ran Ventura.

Downgrading the OS on an Apple Silicon machine is entirely different to how we did it on Intel machines. You can’t just make a bootable installer and have at it. You need to use the Configurator tool and put the machine in DFU mode much like an iPhone. I learned the hard way when I got the original M1 MBA.

To downgrade, I believe you need the required IPSW files. The info is out there.

Thanks for your input, I think I will keep Sonoma, all my plug-ins work and it never crashed while in protools, just when I quit the program, it does the same for logic. I am sure eventually this problem will be resolved.

Also the apple tech said it can't be downgraded, it shipped with sonoma
they recently started shipping all macs with sonoma FYI
You could probably buy a mac at the apple store with Ventura, but if ordering from the factory it will ship with sonoma.

What happens you when quit the programs?

I'm stuck with force quitting, but I just have to live with it on my unsupported Mac.

It just gives me a crash report to apple when I quit PT, don't have to force quit.

No, and yes
I am going to wait until apple, and avid addresses this problem.
Avid link also crashes after downloading sonic drop sound packages.

HI!
Just upgraded to Sonoma. I Usually lag a year or more behind the latest MacOS.
I feel it pretty laggy, but it's most notable on ProTools. I can easily outpace it, i mean, I go faster than ProTools GUI.
Everything lags... for example Soothe display is i dont know ... 5 FPS....
I'm on a MacStudio M1 MAX 32Gb.
I'm running protools under rosetta.

I in the middle of something (I always do us we're are running behind the budgets nowadays). So trying to revert the OS and restore my latest System Backup is not an option right now... I know I know... I should't update from the start but I saw Sonoman working pretty nice on a MBP (M3 though...)

I guess my only option is to downgrade (not easy on Silicon Macs..._).

Thanks in advance.
