Exclamation Cannot get mic to stop peaking

I bought an iMac back in 2011 to make a little at-home recording studio. I purchased a mic from a friend and then got an Mbox 2 w/ Pro Tools 8 LE.

I cannot, whatsoever, get my mic to stop peaking. To my knowledge, everything is set up correctly, but when I push the record button, the levels immediately jump all the way in the red. There's no lowering it whatsoever.

Hardware:
iMac 21" Late 2011 running OS X Mountain Lion.
Audio-Technica AT4050/CM5 plugged in with XLR to XLR cable.
MBox 2 (with Pro Tools 8 LE)

Settings in PT:
Input-> Interface -> Analog 1 (matches where mic is plugged in)
Output-> Interface -> C24 Stereo 1-2

Every knob on this Mbox is turned all the way to the left. My 48v button is on as well as my Mono button. I've tried turning down the gain in pro tools (in AudioSuite -> Other -> Gain). Literally I'm seeing no change whatsoever. Pure red.

WHAT IS HAPPENING?! I got it to kind-of work around 6 months ago when I first set it up, but the mic was always way too sensitive. Literally used it maybe 2 days. Then I moved, and have just now set it up again to get serious about it. I don't think the mic is damaged or the cords, but who knows. Someone PLEASE help. Thanks!

Oh, and I've tried plugging the mic into both Input 1 and Input 2 on the Mbox. No change.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I didn't think LE8 was compatible with ML
Pro Tools Compatibility Grids
Click that link and look for the grid that shows which versions of PT are compatible with each version of OSX.

Pro tool 8 LE is not supported on Lion much less Mountain lion. There are people who have gotten it to work. I have not tried. I am still on Lion with 8 and keeping my fingers crossed it continues to work.
