Default MacOS 9.2.1

MacFixIt is keeping a forum on the newest version of MacOS 9. I'm wondering if upgrading the OS will affect operation of PTLE or not. Here's the link to the MaxFitIt forum:

Yes, has anyone upgraded and made a test with Pro Tools yet?
It would be interesting to know!

The 9.2.1 upgrade is directed more toward OS X compatibility issues. I have upgraded my main HD to 9.2.1 and will at least try it on my Pro Tools drive tonight.
Here are some links to Forums discussing the upgrade. Although aimed at OS X, there are numerous updates to OS 9 apps. The second link has a post with a list of all affected areas.

Just installed 9.2.1 on my backup machine (G4/450/256) - Pro Tools LE 5.1.1 runs fine, I haven't had a chance to do much more than open a session and make sure it plays, but at least it will do that much for sure. I'll post more if I get a chance to do more tests, or perhaps I'll get the gonads to install it on my main system as well. Either way, I'll let y'all know if anything unusual turns up.

Cheers,

The install turns AppleTalk back on but leaves the memory settings as they are.

I've got 9.2 on my new G4 867, so far so good. Have yet to really flex it, I'll keep you posted.

This is a pre-existing problem. Go to the modem control panel and turn off the sound there. This should fix the problem.

I've noticed (now that I've got 9.2 on my PTLE computer) that both CPU usage and PCI usage are higher on the scale. Hm. Projects that used to run fine now stop because of too much CPU usage. Hm.

I did a little test of my configuration.

G4/450 (2nd rev computer)
Audio played back from a second internal ATA 100 IBM dekstar 60 Gb drive.

Buffers are set generously.
Ram is set genourously.

My results:
24 audio tracks.
20 instances of various RTAS plugins (the only factor that seemed to affect CPU performance).
24 Aux Audio channels
No hiccups. A little slower response at play begin and end (actually a lot slower response, typical of ATA drives though).

Note: only 6 tracks had audio, not sure if that negates my results or not. Suffice to say there where very few edits i.e. fades/regions within those tracks.

PTLE 5.1.1

If I get aroudn to it I'll try to do another test with full /edited audio tracks, and some midi thrown in.

Just anecdotal...

I installed 9.2.1 and 5.1.1 on my machine on the weekend and then did some heavy editing of an audio session without incident.

I also tried PT in Classic Mode on my OS X (I have 10.1) with 2.6.1 just to see if it would work, but it still comes up with "Couldn't make DAE Deck". So no joy on that yet.

So I think it's worth getting the latest. If you use OS X then it will help a lot for the classic stuff.
