Question Keyboard Shortcuts--Laptops

Hi there, I have just started using PT8 on my brand new MBP.

I am wondering how on a laptop with no numeric keypad one can use the keyboard shortcuts which use the numeric keypad??

A very simple example would be to bring the transport window up (which on a desktop is "cmd + 1".

Some of my favorite shortcuts use the numeric keypad, such as extending or shortening a region by holding either alt (for the start if a region) or cmd (for the end) and using the + and - keys.. Same goes for sliding the audio within a region and for shifting a selection left or right.. Also, as i use PT at work for video post production, I am used to using 1 and 2 for fast forward and rewind respectively, and number 3 for record..

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hey there,

This too caught me out, loving to nudge regions from the numeric keypad's + and - keys.

Anyhow, there is a solution. Look closely at the keys:

7 8 9 0 -
U I O P
J K L ;
M , . /

Do you see the keys you're familiar with in smaller print in the lower left of these keys?

Now simultaneously hold down the fn (function) key (located lowest right of the keyboard) and it'll bring up:

7 8 9 / =
4 5 6 *
1 2 3 -
0 , . +

A bit of a pain to hold down yet another key with the shift/alt/command keys, but hey, short of purchasing an external keyboard with the numeric keypad, it works!

There are also several USB numeric keypads available out there for around $15. I haven't tried them so I don't know for sure if they'd work with PT, but doesn't seem like it would be an issue.
