Default External midi fader to track fader?

is there a simple "play-by-play" of routing an external midi fader (say, from a synth) to control an audio fader in the tracks window?
or is there none because it's not...."simple"!!

AFAIK, you can only control the faders in the Mix window with a Digi qualified Control Surface.

yeah that's the only way i know of. i think you can control just rtas plugins with a midi solution like that in protools. i bought the digi002 board so i have it but honestly i use it here and there. i actually bought the digi002 for that and didn't really need 8 inputs but it was a good deal and an all in one. you can even get a digi002 all in one on ebay for like $700 or less.

Nah, it can be done, not simply if one's just wanting to rig up a fader on a synth, but there are ways.

Something like Novation's ReMOTE MIDI controllers, for example, come with a HUI template for full knob/button/slider/transport control of Pro Tools. This would be one of simplest non-Digi ways of doing it.

Try finding a used Peavey PC1600X. It has 16 faders + 16 buttons and a big knob. It has several presets for ProTools faders and plugins and then some. PT8.0.1 got the midi controller driver working again for it.
