PT LE 8 - Midi Patch Names (Fantom X7)
I am trying to use a midi patch name file with PT LE 8, but unsuccessful.
Does anyone have a Roland Fantom X7 patch name (.midnam) file that works? There appears to be a bug in PT LE 8.03 that when I try to choose a patch name file the dialog gets confused and I am unable to exit, and have to Force Quit PT. This happens frequently, but not always. thanks, Geoff |

Thanks for the link. I tried this midnam file but it doesn't work for me.
Not sure what the problem is. Is anyone a Fantom X7 user? Geoff |

Re: PT LE 8 - Midi Patch Names (Fantom X7)
PLEASE, if anyone knows how to get a Fantom (X7)'s patch list working with ProTools it would really help.
In the meantime, in case you are having similar problems, ProTools will capture the patch you choose on the Fantom. Once you have found a patch you like, open the patch select dialog on PT (under the regions, notes, blocks.. button) and with the dialog open, reselect your sound on the Fantom. PT will capture it. You can also change patches while recording midi, and PT will record the changes. While this still won't display the patch name, at least you can save the Fantom's patch number in PT. Why is the MIDNAME so poorly documented? I tried using CherryPicker to edit the midname file, but made no difference. Geoff |

I suggest using Cherry Picker to make a midnam from scratch. There's likely to be a PDF of the Fantom's owner's manual from Roland's support area on their site, you'll need the MSB and LSB (also known as cc#00, cc#32) Bank Select codes from the Fantom's MIDI implementation chart, and while you're there, highlight+copy+paste the patch lists into a word processor so that they're ready to drop into Cherry Picker. Cherry Picker works beautifully, but will take a little learning around creating different banks and what bank select codes are relevant for your particular synth.
