please help. pro tools doesn't open. crashes at start up

hey

I'm really hoping someone can save me from re-formating my entire computer and reinstalling all of my programs.

when i open pro tools in bounces on the dock and then crashes. I've tried everything i know and its still doing it. I've trashed the preferences, trashed the databases etc... i've also completely uninstalled and reinstalled pro tools twice with no luck. I've repaired my disk permissions as well.

can anyone suggest anything to try?

I have pro tools 7.4 running on OS X 10.4.9

Have you tried running the prebinding script? This is very common after installing PTs or major system updates.

i downloaded the script, ran it and it said

'Prebinding seems to be OK on this system. Prebinding repair was not performed.'


so that doesn't seem to be the problem.

i was hoping that was it too.

could it be something in my system files? i'm just hoping there's something i can do to fix this problem instead of reformatting my whole comp and reinstalling everything.

any other suggestions?

Open up the system log and try to start PT, see what (if any) messages are displayed.

Try removing all the plug-ins from your plug-ins folder, trash preferences, restart and launch again.

If it launches - it's a corrupted or incompatible plug-in causing the problem.

If it doesn't launch, try creating a new administrator account, restart and log in to the new account, then try launching Pro Tools again. If it works, then you have a corrupted OS preference in your original account - unfortunately, trying to determine which one it is could be a monumental task and you are best advised to migrate everything over to the new account.

I am having a similar problem and can't get it to work.

If the digi advice doesn't work, you might try checking your ilock driver to see if it is up to date.
