Duel processor MAC. Is it worth it?
I am on the verge of purchasing a new mac and the digi-001 withing the next two weeks, and I am uncertain whether I should spend the extra 600 dollars and get a dual processor mac or just go with a single. I know that to fully utilize this the software must be capable of dividing it's work load up between the two processors. Does anyone know if this is imbedded in the pro-tools LE software? Maybe MAC OS already has the coding embedding in it's platform, I don't know.
thank you for your replies, djwillpower |

Re: Duel processor MAC. Is it worth it?
According to APPLE. Who I talked to last week about this .
When 'os10' is released it will automatically use the next available instruction(CPU) for any software. However the software must be compatible w os10. There is also the possibility that Digi. will not want the 001 to take advantage of the power. This would make a 001 capable of as many or more REAL TIME PLUG-INS as a PT MIX + system. Now let's see...... $10,000 or $1,000.00???? DIGI002! |

Re: Duel processor MAC. Is it worth it?
Why would Digidesign not take advantage of the dual processor with LE software? The plug ins are host based so the more powerful the host, the better the software will perform. Will Digidesign actually limit our use of available hardware? Any response from anyone at Digidesign?

Re: Duel processor MAC. Is it worth it?
Yes they would!
If fact it is already being done. Digi can not afford to have a 1000.00 system perform at the same level(plug-ins) as there 10K MIX+ system. Look for a upgrade or a new product from Digi in the 2000.00 to 3000.00 range Also there are probably some major announcements from Digi just around the corner. (2 year anniversary of the MIX ) |

Re: Duel processor MAC. Is it worth it?
Digi would be wise to conform to the dual processor. Otherwise Motu, Steinberg or Emagic software that supports two cpu's will effect their high end market. More processors=more plug-ins.
Just my opinion. |

Re: Duel processor MAC. Is it worth it?
I read recently in the DUC that Digidesign haven't even written Protools LE to use velocity engine, if thats the case I cant see them taking advantage of dual processors just yet...but Im am not to sure if this info is true or not...
but why not by the dual system anyway just for the future..I know I would...
