It is my understanding that our testing department has obtained one and is currently running it through its paces. No support as of yet but we will update our compatibility documents as soon as our bench tests are completed. http://www.digidesign.com/compato/index.html

Ha! If you think digi will willingly write code that will eliminte the need to purchase a mix card, you are sadly mistaken.

yeah i myself dropped my lungs on a new g4 system just 4 months ago...was a little bitter to see the latest. i wrote to apple about upgrades and they shot back a very stock, very lame response that mentioned nothing about upgrades etc. am very anxious to see how it plays out , but am not so optimistic. apple seems to shed their skin quite often....

I don't mean to sound cold.. but everyone knows they usually release new models at Macworld.. pretty much everyone expected this.

Also, if you bought a new Hewlett Packard or Dell PC, and a month later they announced a faster processor, do you think they'd have an upgrade policy? I don't think so..

Hi lcovemusic,
I was the same wen I saw the new computers. It annoyed me that after saving to buy my system (G4\400) i could go and buy a Dual 450 for the same damm price down hear in Australia. I spoke to somebody at apple and he said that he had no idea about the new gear till the day they were released

I, for one, am not panicking for these new high-end Macs. Right now, dual processors will primarily apply to apps (Photoshop) that are written to take advantage of them. To my knowledge, Pro Tools code will only know how to use one processor. Even the Finder and Mac OS have little or no support for 2 procs.

Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

Icovemusic - you need not be steamed.

My adivice: buy the discounted G4/400s from last season. These are plenty fast for PT and they're cheaper than ever.

Well I am diving in the Deep Water as I've ordered on of these (DP G4 - 500) beasts. I should have it in about a week or so (according to Apple - I ordered it over a week ago and demand is high), so I'll let you all know what happens. Stay tuned!

We'll need OS X and an OS X optimised version of PT for this to be any real speed bump. I reckon it would be best to hold off buting a new mac for Pro Tools (if you are n't seriously in need of one) until after OS X is out and the relevant PT update is ready to go.......
