Default What about Pro-Tools LE and Altivec?

Does anyone know or have an idea when Digidesign will release an Altivec optimized version of Pro-Tools software? And an OSX version too?

Hello All;
I live in Australia myself and I have been told by a protools dealer in Sydney that protools LE would support Altivec as part of 5.1.. Actually while I think of it two other dealers said the same!

anyhow just thought I would let you know

PS. Digi/Bruce if you support Altivec with PT 5.1, I'll never complain again..........much.........very little.........hardly ever.

This question has been asked many times. But no comment from Digi. May have to wait for PT 5.1 and beyond to find out.
If it did support Altivec it would smoke all the competitors.

Regarding Altivec, if you've been monitoring the various Mac sites (MOSR, MacCentral, etc.), there is some question as to whether Apple might be dropping it. Time will tell.

Hello Again,
I was reading a thing on AppleInsider.com and they had put a list of the new computer configurations all Multi processor but I wouldnt be surprised if Apple dump the whole Altivec thing all together...

Anyhow as Lee says time will tell

Conttrary to your post, the new G4 chips support 400% improvements in altivec processing, including deeper caching for proccesore cycles. Altivec will not go away as it competes with mmx technology inpentium platforms. The new chips also have additional intructions for altivec code. An interesting note- rumor, the new macs will not have the enhanced udma 2 chipsets, which may presetn greater aduio capability to the core mac features. ( personally I was hoping for 5.1 native support- rewritten sound manager with better specs) but who knows? Theres rumors out there about crappy add on pc soundcards being included on macs as well. Maybe Digi is the secrete audio card provider, wouldnt thatbe a kick! LOL Doubtfull but hey a DAWperson can dream.

I hope the Sydney dealers are correct. Even if Apple drop Altivec, many of us use Altivec optimised macs. My G4 400 may be superceded by computer industry standards but it is more than adequate for my needs. Geez, it's only a few months old
It would be nice to know that Digi are thinking of all their customers and will support Altivec in 5.1
It would be good not to have to worry about processor overheads so much.
Even with outboard FX, I still clock up a fair plugin count with compressors, EQ, gates, etc.
I know I can use the Audiosuite versions to free up CPU but I don't like committing these plugins to disk. Makes it real hard to change something later.
