Problem with Structure Essential plugin

Hey,
I'm new to pro tools so this may be a dumb question, but I'm using the structure essential for a midi bass guitar, and when I turn up the Bass smart knob, it immediately goes back down to 0% as soon as I press play. How do I get it to stay? There are no automations turned on, but I feel like there must be something I'm overlooking.
