Well then perhaps the next HD system will only be around a 1k all in instead of 20k.

Can't blame 'em for wanting to move into the evening remixer want to be market.

For the times they are a changing....

That's what they've been spending their time on, rather than fixing our gripes!

Uh-oh.. Steinberg doing this was the final straw that made me swap.....they spent all their resources launching a kiddie package called 'sequel' , rather than fixing Nuendo..

I understand "Make it Cheap", and why it works.
But I think digidesign need to learn "There's a line", and when not to cross it.

It would look better if it wasn't badged with M-Audio too, but they wouldn't do that would they?

you guys are reading into this waaaayyy too much. There was a program called "M-Audio Session" that shipped with most M-audio interfaces. It was a very basic DAW program that M-audio had stopped developing a long time ago. It doesn't even work on most systems now. So, instead of diverting Protools developers away from working on protools to update, fix, and test a new version of Session (and to avoid having to hire new people to develop session)... they just decided to make a very stripped down version of PTMP that they can box with the interfaces to replace Session instead of forcing every customer to buy PTMP for $250 or purchase some other software (cubase, logic, sonar, etc) in addition to the hardware.

also, having the code aligned with the main PT development efforts means that whenever there is a bug fix or new version of PT, there will be a new version of Essential with little to no extra resources needed. To limit the program the way essential is limited is very quick and easy to do, as opposed to maintaining two separate code bases for two completely different DAW applications and having to update both concurrently.

You guys are such TDM snobs!
This is clearly not a product for most of us at our workplace, but it sure answers a crying need in the market. If you want Avid/Digi/M-Audio to thrive, you want them to be doing this.
