Default recording drums setup need advice!

hey everyone, i have a mbox setup that i've done my bands recordings with and since it only has 2 inputs i obviously can't record drums and such so i've had to program the drums for my recordings and then dump the wav files into PT6.9. well i'm at the point now where i want to record some demos for bands as well as do my own recordings and i'm in the market for some more inputs. I'm trying to stay under $1500. Is their anything that has at least 8 inputs so i can record into PT? I'm under the impression that the 002 has only 4 inputs and i'm looking for either another interface to record into pt with so i can get some live drums on my recordings. If there isn't something for PT i also have Adobe Audition that i'm comfortable in so what would you guys recommend for either PT or adobe? I have looked at the Edirol FA-101 that supposedly has 10 inputs but has anyone tried it or does it sound good? If i have to go the route where i would have to record the drums into AA and then just export the tracks into PT that would be fine. Any suggestions is appreciated! Oh and i do have drum mics just need some interface options with more inputs! thanks in advance.

here are some examples of the recordings i've done with my band: Years In Black and White

oo2r - 8 analog inputs (4 double as mic preamps) + 8 through ADAT optical + 2 through SPDIF.

I use a 002R(1-4) + a digimaxLT(adat 1-8) through Litepipe + a vintech 1272 (2 ch) through inputs 7-8

Gets me 14 at one time. I have an art tube mp but i dont cout it since it sucks.

Also....this topic is so heavily covered. it comes up week after week. please do a search for digimax.

I second what Bubba said there. The 002 is your best bet for that price budget. You could even score an 002r for roughly $800 used and then get a decent pre-amp to run 4 more channels into the unit for that price. I would even do drums with only 4 mics into the 4 pre's on the 002 or 002r and do them up that way. I have done drums with as little as 3 mics in a session before. Goodluck

also if your trying to stay under 1,500 u can sell your Mbox for let's say 250 maybe more maybe less i'm not sure, then u'd have 1,750 you can then try to get a good deal on both a 002r and on a digimax LT and you'll be up to 16inputs and 12 preamps

If you're REALLY looking to stay under 1500:

002r = $1200 (4 mic preamps)
Behringer Pro-8 ADAT Preamp = $230 (8 mic preamps)

= $1430

The behringer unit doesn't have the best preamps in the world, but for someone on a budget (like me) they get the job done until you can afford something better.

The presonus is actually a GREAT preamp and I paid 650 NEW for mine. But at least the bearinger does AD/DA. ( you can use it as converters for all your NEVE and API preamps. It will really improve their sound.)

Seriously..the Digimax LT is a GREAT preamp.

thanks for all the help guys, i think for now i'm going to go with the Presonus Firepod and just record into Cubase for the drums and then export the wavs to protools for mixing for now and see how that goes. The Firepod has 8 inputs with good reviews on the pres so for $500 i can at least try it out. Plus cubase works on my laptop so i can take the firepod and laptop and try different areas for drums rather than my bedroom. again thanks so much!
