Fan Noise for Mbox recording
I have been using Mbox, PT6 and a G4 with MacOSX for about six weeks. If it wasn't for this list I would have gone crazy...a great help. My question: I use PT6 for voice recording in a small studio (o.k....a closet). After recording for about 15 minutes, the fan on my G4 kicks on and keeps me from recording further. Too much noise. My solution, putting the G4 in the refrigerator for 15 minutes, worked but is a bit cumbersome. Setting my G4 on a frozen pizza box didn't help either. Apple support didn't have any good suggestions...any other ideas?? Thanks!

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
um.....DO NOT put your computer in the fridge!!!!
it's to cold for a hot computer and the condensation will build up and destroy it!! if you can't set up the box outside of the closet try grabbing a few of those 12" sound tiles and build a soft box around your g4 but leave space for some airflow |

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
I actually can't tell if you're joking or not....but, yes, definitely don't put your computer in the fridge.
Are you using a MDD g4? If so, you should know that there is a fan replacement offer from Apple (go to apple.com, it's in support somewhere). It's free, and you get a brand new power supply and big fan. My box went from occasional wind tunnel to occasional fan sound. The normal operating sound is basically silent. -Peter C |

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
what's stopping you from opening your G4's case, leave it open, and work on your projects!

Putting a G4 in a fridge ?
At least he didn't put his cat in the microwave, as some have been known to do. |

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
Check out the fan modification from Apple as others have suggested, then check out www.barnabas.com/sound/ and look at some home made remedies to control the fan noise.

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
Thank you all. I will try the fan modification and the barnabas website. Sorry to hear about your girlfriend Joe. And yes, I actually did put it in the fridge but only for a few minutes.
