No mic feedback.. Plz help!!
I recently just purchased a new pre amp (presonus studio channel) and interface (akai eie pro). I have everything hooked up correctly. A week ago i was up and running, its just that now i have no mic feedback. This issue is driving me crazy! I have no idea what happened.
Im running pro tools 10 on the mac os mountain lion (10.7.2). I have a baby bottle mic. That is connected to the input of my pre amp and have 1/4 connect from that output going into the input on my interface. Phantom is on but still no feedback.. Is this because of pro tools?? Do i need to adjust anything in my I/O settings?? Im lost and in need of guidance. Insight is greatly appreciated. |

Re: No mic feedback.. Plz help!!
No feedback should be good right!?
Guessing you mean no signal. Find out where the signal is getting lost. Do you have any activity on the PreAmp Meter? Interface? If so, I'd double check your routing inside pro tools. If your not sure how to do that, refer to the manual. But you should have something like an analog 1 (for instance) option for an input, make sure your track is assigned that input, and that the mic preamp is connected to that same input. If nothing I would double check the phantom power...

Re: No mic feedback.. Plz help!!
Im not sure exactly what your setup is (you mentioned a preamp connected to your interface... what preamp is it? What interface is it?
As Lincoln mentioned, if your preamp is working you will see signal hit your Interface... If you see signal hit your interface and see nothing when trying to assign that interfaces input to a track and arm it in Pro Tools, it might just be an I/O setting or it could be that the playback engine was switched. To ensure it is infact using the right interface when launching pro tools hold down the N key on the keyboard until the playback engine window appears. At the top there is a drop down menu that you can select what devise to use... make sure you select the interface you are trying to use and hit OK. Now Pro Tools will launch up using that interface as the in/out device. Now create a new track and select the interfaces input you are plugged into to be the tracks input. Now arm the track for recording and it should pop up. If it still does not show up in pro tools you might have to default your I/O setting. Go up to Setup-I/O and then in each tab (input, outputs, buss) hit the default button and click OK. This will reset your I/O to factory default. |

Put on a set of headphones , Raise the gain on the high end frequency up about say 15 DBs put limiter on the master buss ,thresh hold at -30 DBs output at -2 , fastest attack time possible. Turn up your headphones to a very nice loud volume . Put the mic directly in front of your tweeter and press record . But make sure everything is muted first. This is a guaranty to give feed back . |

Check the back of your preamp (or input of interface) to see if it's calibrated for +4 or -10. Are you going into a line in? As for checking phantom, if it's a condenser, just make sure it's on there's a light I believe - double check yourself... Maybe the -20pad is on and not necessary? Follow your gain staging all the way down the signal path... Report back where are you losing the signal!! You'll figure it out...
