Default Please Help, Guys!

Hello, my friends,

my name's Sean. It's been some time since I've visited this great forum, but, after a hiatus, I have put my foot down and pulled out the old M-Box, which was tucked away after I buried my last Computer. It's a ritual that Ive completed several times, but this time there is a problem and I think it has something to do with the firmware upgrade.

QUICKLY MY SPECS(please don't laugh,I'm on a down cycle...)

Pro tools 6.4(originally 6.1, but upgraded to stand alone 6.4)
original M-Box
Windows XP/ Centrino/Acer Aspire laptop

AND THE PROBLEM (After normal installation, this is what's wrong):

1. M-Box is unresponsive and all of the lights are on. Somewhere, I believe I was prompted to install firmware and now it shows up as M-Box(firmware upgrade mode.). It won't disappear, although the driver scan shows the old version as well.

2. Pro tools will not fully launch. It always freezes at the noise reduction plug in install, whatever that means, then I'm forced to ctl+alt+del (which I've done 40 times.

3. Asio driver doesn't show up in the windows control panel or my other programs. ( I often use the m-box driver to record in Acid.)

Well, guys, that's my hell. Obviously my system is sub-par, but in the digital world, with all the excellant software.........well, you understand, this isn't exactly the Yahama 4-track taking a dump. I'm very upset and I know it's dumb. Everything was fine when I last unhooked it.

Please forgive me if this topic was covered. I will follow any link. I;m so burnt out with this problem. THANK YOU

What service pack are you running on XP? What cs version are you on in PT 6.4? You should have cs6 and cs9 installed for service pack 2 or 3. And no IE8.

Thank you, Tom, for the reply.

OK, I'm running XP service pack 3. I did install the cs9 and I've just downloaded cs6, which I'll install after this.

I do use IE8. I don't run it at the same time as pro-tools.

What do you think? Have you heard of these symptoms? The actual hardware is freaking me out. It's unresponsive, fully lit, no dancing lights.

* My hardware was packed up with a midi controller, sound card and some other stuff. It is a long shot, as meticulous as i am with my audio equipment, but can it be the USB chord isn't correct.

thanks again, iam logging off to install

well i wasn't sure, but No, I guess not. Actually, I got a hand me down PC (decent specs ) that needs an operating system and i'm planning to use that for web browsing and laptop for my DAW.

Thank you,BtW, the sticky's are great. I've followed all the optimizations like disabling start ups, and other audio drivers, but I sense a problem.

I see the post on IE8. That would explain ProTools freezing during launch, but has it been known to cause hardware problems? I hate to think that Internet Explorer did some damage. I was fine with ie7. lol

This has all the makings of a piece of equipment buying the farm, but, please, not the keystone of my bedroom studio!!!!
